Though there is no best way to study for the SCRN Examination and each person has a different study method, the resources below are options for study materials. There are several study tools you can use to prepare for the exam and the list below is not intended to be comprehensive. For more suggested study materials, please view the SCRN Candidate Handbook if you are planning to take the exam in the May 2023 window. If you are planning to take the exam in the September window, please see updated SCRN Candidate Handbook with revised content outline based on the new Job Analysis Study. Self-Paced SCRN Review Course
The Self-Paced SCRN Review Course is a web-based review that includes interactive videos and quizzes to help you prepare for the SCRN exam or to review stroke nursing best practices. The online course is a self-paced study tool and you can earn up to 8 CE hours upon completion and evaluation of the course. Based on the Comprehensive Review for Stroke Nursing book and the SCRN exam content outline, the course includes ten modules. SCRN Self-Assessment Examination
The SCRN Self-Assessment Examination is used to assess whether or not a candidate is prepared for the SCRN examination. Take the self-assessment exam and consider it a pretest to better understand your current knowledge as it applies to certification and determine where additional studies are needed. Once you have purchased the exam, it is available for 1 year from the first time you access it. The assessment consists of 75 questions covering the content areas of the SCRN examination. The SCRN Self-Assessment Examination is available for purchase in the AANN online store.
Your performance on the practice examination will not guarantee results on the actual SCRN examination. The practice examination is not required to sit for the certification examination.

AANN Clinical Practice Guidelines
The aim of the Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) series is to provide an overview on caring for a specific patient population and to equip nurses with a tool that will assist them in delivering the optimum quality-focused patient care.
AANN has published CPGs on topics such as neuro-oncology, movement and neuromuscular disorders, neurotrauma, and spine surgery. All CPGs are free for download on the AANN website.
